For those of you who haven’t heard, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Pace, just equated homosexuality with adultery while offering his support for Clinton’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy during an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
Once again, a major public official - whose responsibility is to defend and serve all Americans - decided that his personal views of morality are more important that defending the Constitution of the United States. I am so disgusted with this self-righteous general deciding who should be granted full rights and freedom and who should not based soley on his personal beliefs. He should resign.
BUT if the man is not a flaming hypocrite, he should immediately institute a policy which immediately dismisses any member of the military who commits adultery, not just with another military member but with anyone. Can you even imagine the number of dismissals that would result from this policy?
Also, I wonder if General Pace believes that acts of adultery would prevent a person like, say, Newt Gingrich or Rudy Giuliani, from being Commander in Chief. Or for that matter, how about any number of other Republicans who have clearly committed adultery while serving in public office?
This is an evolving news story and my good friend Andy Towle at Towleroad.com is once again on the story like no other. Please visit Towleroad for the most up-to-date information.
UPDATE:
NY Times: Republican Senator John Warner, ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, criticizes General Pace’s remarks.
