American Idol last night went down to the final two. It's the battle of the Davids. Older rocker David Cook versus young teenage heart throb David Archuleta. In a nationwide survey completed before Syesha was voted off the show, Rasmussen Reports asked Americans for their personal choice. In the 'what in the hell were they thinking' department, prestigious (well maybe less so now) Washington University in St. Louis has decided to award an honorary degree to Phyllis Schlafly. Was David Duke busy that day? What will they list as her outstanding contributions? Maybe she can claim title to being one of the foremost bigots of her generation. Word in California is since Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger can't run for a third term, the Democrats are already starting to circle the State House. The three front runners appear to be San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, California Attorney General (and former Governor) Jerry Brown and California Lt. Governor John Garamendi. Sure more will enter but right now two old timers versus the new kid on the block. Stay tuned.
Here is a major salute to Washington Post veteran reporter David Broder. He has accepted a buy-out offer from the newspaper. Without a doubt, Broder is one of the most outstanding political reporters of our generation. His calm demeanor and intellectual writing left us wanting more. Hopefully he will continue to contribute in other ways. Wouldn't we all love an honest and candid memoir from this amazing man?
