McCain continues to surprise and the selection of Governor Sarah Palin is a shocker. Not because she Cvr080829palin3hmed8a_grid4x3 shouldn't be considered but the fact that it came out of no where.

Over the last hour, I have chatted to several key people who know her and the more I hear, the more it is apparent to me that he might have made a good choice. Here are some of the basics that have been related to me:

1. Palin has a powerful personal story like Biden's.
2 Palin is smart, charismatic and tough.
3. She has five children and one of them is disabled.
4. In Alaska, she took on the Steven's/Young machine and beat them. She is view as a reformer.
5. She is a quick learner and should never been underestimated as a debater.
6. She will appeal to those 60 years plus Democratic women.
7. She is the ultimate Washington 'outsider'.

On the negative side what I have learned:

1. The Governor is strongly Pro-life.
2. She is horrible on the environment and wants the wilderness areas of Alaska opened up for drilling.
3. That she is relatively bad on all other social issues.
4. She supported PAT BUCHANAN for President!
5. The Governor is an advocate for opening up public lands for not only drilling but also logging and grazing.

Democrats would be making a serious mistake to underestimate this choice. The lower the expectations the easier it is for this talented political woman to surpass them. Remember, McCain only has to cut into Obama's support among women by 5% to 7% and the race becomes very tight and very scary. McCain might have made a wise and smart choice and we better plan accordingly.
