If you listen to the keening of hand-wringers, Caroline Kennedy has no right to the United States Senate 800px-20080128_Caroline_and_Ted_Kennedy_endorsing_Barack_Obama seat being vacated by Senator Hillary Clinton. On December 7, this site strongly endorsed Ms. Kennedy for the seat. A lot has happened since then - including her public posture of being willing to serve this nation in that capacity. What is most disturbing is the number of people who believe she has done nothing to deserve the seat and is simply being handed it because of her name. Many of the same-type naysayers were vocal and vicious when Robert Kennedy ran to be the junior senator from New York State. We know the impact he has had on this nation.

I believe Caroline Kennedy would be one of the most qualified people to serve in years. She is bright, talented and her outreach to a vast and diverse number of groups is astounding. Mayor Michael Bloomberg could not stop praising her for her work in education with the New York Public School system. She has written about our Constitution making her the most likely to understand the importance of restoring its integrity. During the Obama run for the White House, Ms. Kennedy proved herself an astute campaigner and skillful fundraiser. It's hard to imagine another replacement who would be better equipped to raise the needed funds to keep the seat in 2010. With the help of her Uncle Teddy, she will have access to the best minds and talent in the country.

Her celebrity is a plus in that people will pay attention to her words and actions. She can unite black and white, young and old, gay and straight, rich and poor. Few others being considered can even approach the considerable gifts and talents that she brings to the table. The Governor of New York would restore faiths in governors by announcing her appointment.
