Former Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith once said,
"Moral cowardice that keeps us from speaking our minds is as dangerous to this country as irresponsible talk. The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character."
That very quote explains why four outstanding and amazing people received the New York Anti-Violence Projects "Courage Award" this week.
Pam Spaulding, Andy Towle, Bil Browning and Joe Jarvis stood proudly to be acknowledged for their fight against hate crimes, violence and their commitment to a world of peace. In many ways, their honor is an honor for the entire community. Their writings represent the best that is in all of us. I join thousands of others in congratulating these extraordinary bloggers and incredible human beings for their courage.
