Up to her usual excellent reporting, Pam Spaulding reveals that ever 'enlightened' House of Representatives of South Carolina has just cut off all funds for HIV/AIDS within its state borders. Folks, that means people will HIV/AIDS will get zip - zero - nada for treatment and care. This action is just astounding when you consider that South Carolina ranks 8th in newly diagnosed HIV cases in the nation! Makes you wonder if government can get any worse.
According to the article in Pams House Blend, there are 14,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in South Carolina and 22% of them depend on state funding for meds. Of course, the state that takes great pride in upholding the morals of their citizens, especially when it comes to homosexuality, seems to have no compassion for the sick and the poor.
Pam writes,
Let's be honest here. The elimination of HIV funding is the culmination of piss poor management by South Carolina's governing body. And worse, it shows where the state's priorities are. It's an ugly indictment on the hypocrisy of the supposed Bible belt region.
It is written that Jesus healed the sick, but I guess things have changed to the point that those who claim to be his followers have no problems with ignoring the sick.
