-From the 'did you know' department, that New York's Mayor Michael Bloomberg is licensed to fly both planes and helicopters? His Honor takes a subway to work most days. If I had his money and could fly a helicopter, I know how I would go to work!
-Former First Lady Laura Bush (photograph) is having her Washington, DC book party in the Kuwait Embassy. What an interesting location for such an event!
-Could incumbent 'just turned Democrat' Senator Arlen Specter be in trouble in the primary this month? The latest Quinnipiac Poll has challenger Congressman Joe Sestak rapidly closing in on Specter. The incumbent at one point had a 21 point lead over Sestak but now that lead has dwindled to a mere 8 points. The Muhlenberg Poll in Pennsylvania has Sestak only 4 points behind.
-Where is all the video tape from the Republican Convention of Sarah Palin leading the delegates in chatting "Drill, Baby, Drill" on national televsion network news? My, they seem to have become very quiet these days.

-The Tony Award nominations came out yesterday and I am very excited for a few friends/acquaintances of mine. Talented playwright Geoffrey Nauffts was nominated for the play "Next Fall." Levi Kreis got a Tony nomination for "Best Featured Actor in a Musical." And 'bravo' to legendary David Hyde Pierce for receiving the Isabelle Stevenson Award.
-The New York award season is in full swing with friend Cheyenne Jackson (photograph) winning a nomination for "Best Actor in a Musical" from the Drama Desk Awards. He received the award for the revival of the ground breaking musical "Finian's Rainbow". The Drama Desk Awards bestowed a "Best Ensemble Cast" on "The Temperamentals". Our pal Judith Ivey just won the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Actress in The Glass Menagerie; the production won Best Revival. Also receiving a Lortel Award is dear Michael Urie for The Temperaments as "Best Actor" Proud to even know you all.Congrats!
-Florida's "Family Values" State Senator Mike Bennett was caught on the floor of the State Senator looking at female porn during a session on his work place computer. Give the guy a break! He must be lonely with all those long hours at the legislature. -Speaking of politicos named Bennett, who would have thought that very conservative Mormon United States Senator Bob Bennett would be too 'liberal' for Republican activists in Utah. The 'tea-bag' nuts are attempting to stop the grandson of the seventh president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for being not right wing enough! He could be denied a space on the ballot at the Utah Republican Convention at the end of the month.
-For weeks there was speculation of the 'big name' that would come out of the closet this week. While I am thrilled for Country Western singer Chely Wright, all the hype made the announcement somewhat a 'say what?' moment.
-Openly gay candidate for United States Congress Providence Mayor David Cicilline is having a fundraiser on May 17th in New York City at the swank Metropolitan Club. Please RSVP at rsvp@cicilline.com and help out this important race.

This astounding video interview will remind us all of the incredible support from the Prime Minister. Please take time to listen to it in order to know what is reasonable to expect from a leader of a nation.
-Being a block and half from the "Times Square Bomb", I have to say what an amazing job was done by New York Police in removing thousands of people from the area quickly and without panic. Have to admit I did pull down my shades just in case the damn thing went off and shattered windows.
-Public Policy Polling has Republican Ron Paul's son, Libertarian Rand Paul, really sticking it to the Republican establishment in Kentucky. Seems he is defeating the establishment candidate Trey Grayson in the primary by 48% to 28%.
-TampaBay.com reports that an internal poll taken for Governor Charles "I am not Gay" Crist as a new Independent in the United States Senate race brings him good news. Appears that Democrats, sensing he has a better chance of defeating right wing Tea Party candidate Marco Rubio, are leaving Congressman Ken Meeks and supporting Crist. The poll showed Crist at 36%, Rubio at 28% and Meeks at only 23%. This might have been a smart move on Crist's part.
-To close this week, here is another piece of extraordinary photojournalism from Boston.com The Big Picture. Look at the this photograph taken by Maurico Lima for Getty Images. See more of the talented different photojournalists in Afghanistan by going to the site.
-In any other news week the floods in Tennessee would be a major story. The devastating floods have killed around 30 people with more expected to found dead. However, the terrorist bomb in Times Square plus the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico overshadowed the horrors in Nashville. Our hearts go out to the people in the flooded region
