Dec 28 2010

Dec27_sat -The Great Blizzard of 2010 left two feet of snow in the New York metro area and winds hit over 55mph. What is amazing about this storm is that it almost took the form of a hurricane (see photograph). The barometric pressure fell as low as a Cat Three hurricane and there were winds of 80mph on Cape Cod.

-The Catholic League's Bill Donohue has certainly not taken a vow of poverty. Donohue who seems to make it his mission to spread homophobia - among other vile life opinions - received a salary of $342,500 last year with another $50,000 plus for benefits. Hate evidently is big business.

-Bloomberg Reports says this session of Congress has "made more law affecting more Americans since the “Great Society” legislation of the 1960s." Now that is saying a lot!

-In the "Give Me A Break" section, a couple lost $800,000 by answering the question correctly! That's right, you heard me right. "Million Dollar Money Drop" said a couple didn't answer the question right but then found out later they were spot on! However, instead of giving them the money they clearly owe them, they just invited the couple to try again. Of course, the show is on Fox.

-Public Policy Polling reports that 72% of Florida Republicans want former Governor Jed Bush to run against incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in 2012. Guess I will be hearing about Bushes the rest of my life. Ugh.

Grancabrio-3-1251121788 -When is the last time you heard of a car selling out? That is exactly what happened to the Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible according to Luxist.com. As they used to say on the British show Little Britian, " I want that one!"

-Africa.com reports that 14,000 residents of the Ivory Coast have fled to Liberia for fear of a civil war breaking out. The situation grows worse by the day.

-Who says television doesn't pay? "Mentalist" leading man Simon Baker has just been given a $30 million deal to keep going with the series. Hell, for that kind of money he could play basketball for the Lakers.

-Poor Mitt Romney. He just can't seem to get a break in his race for the Republican nomination for President in 2012. In the latest Public Policy Polling in the Sunshine State he has lost considerable ground. In March he was leading the slate of potential candidates with a whopping 52% of the vote. Huckabee now holds the lead in Florida with 23% and Romney has dropped to only 21% to second place.

-Karen Ocamb of LGBTPOV has just written an extensive article about LGBT progressives and Log Cabin Republicans. Can we work together? Click here and read this fascinating article.
