Is there no end to the Catholic Church attempts to force all of us to think and believe within their narrow confines of theology? In one of the most outrageous attempts at censorship so far, the Worcester Catholic Bishop Robert McManus has forced Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts to cancel a commencement speech by Vicki Kennedy the widow of Senator Edward Kennedy because of political views.
The Senator, considered one of the great Senators' of all time, was a champion of the poor, the powerless and those who suffered the burden of discrimination. His voice became the conscience of a nation. Vicki Kennedy has emulated him in those views. Those qualities are exactly the kind you would think any religion would want to practice on a daily basis.
Boston.com quoted Vicki Kennedy's statement:
"I have not met Bishop McManus, nor has he been willing to meet with me to discuss his objections. He has not consulted with my pastor to learn more about me or my faith,” read the statement. “Yet by objecting to my appearance at Anna Maria College he has made a judgment about my worthiness as a Catholic. This is a sad day for me and an even sadder one for the Church I love.”"
Instead they are digging in their heels in a fit of anger at anyone who dares to march to a different drummer. How absurd can you get then to have the widow of one the great Senator's of our generation be viewed as dangerous to young minds. Really, does the Church think the student's listening to Vicki Kennedy will suddenly go out and become gay and have abortions?
The theology of the Catholic Church is becoming one of censorship, hatred and intolerance. Thank God they no longer burn dissenters at the stake but hey, they might reinstate even that punishment! This decision by the Bishop raises their actions to the level of idiots. What are they thinking?
