In my entire life, I have never had a second without nuclear weapons looming over the world. Sixty-seven years ago this week, the United States Government Trinity Project (The effort to create a bomb is more generally known as The Manhattan Project) detonated the first ever atomic bomb! The test was on July 16 in Jornada del Muerto desert in New Mexico.

In a little over three weeks after that test, the first nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan killing tens of thousands and totally destroying the city. It was followed by a second drop on Nagasaki. The bombings signaled the end of the war in the Pacific, but some still ask if the cost was worth it.
