The Tampa Convention Hall is like big gift wrap room. This is the Republican attempt to make their ugly, bitter and divisive extremism look like a wonderful expensive present in a Tiffany box. The Republicans will talk about how they are the true Americans, Mrs. Romney will bring people in the audience to tears with her stories of Romney's devotion to her. Speaker after speaker will say America is for everyone.
Of course, they will fail to mention the big surprise contained in their gift which forbids minorities, the LGBT community and people seeking new dreams from other nations to open it. They want to return to the days when "America was great and prosperous." They want their country back from all of us who have dared to live open honest lives, who aren't white and who have no ancestors that came over on the Mayflower!
What they want back is not America but the ability to force a way of life on other people who are different. They want to take away a woman's right to control her own body and force her to be submissive to her husband. They want to deny a husband and wife easy access to family planning so they can force the Republican Party's religious beliefs on others. The folks inside that huge hall in Tampa want to go back to an America where religious differences aren't respected and Christian prayer is forced on people of different faiths.
The forces of darkness in Tampa want to amend the Constitution of the United States to ban choice and marriage equality. That is just the beginning of the assault on our beloved Constitution by those who say they love it!
So don't be fooled by the big smiles and well thought out themes with balloons and bands at the Tampa Convention. Before even arriving in Tampa, America has seen their gift at its most ugly. The big blue cheerful box with the white ribbon is way too late. Americans already know what is inside it.
