One of the most famous bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge, was officially opened on May 27, 1937. There were week long celebrations all around the different Bay Cities. President Roosevelt from Washington, D.C. pushed a button to allow the official procession to start crossing the bridge.

At the time, The bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Now it is the ninth longest in the world. Interesting over 1,200 people committed suicide from the bridge over its long history. The bridge has only been closed three times in its history from winds that reached between 60mph to 70mph. The last time was in 1983 doing a wicked storm.
