Sgt Mark Schoonhaven, 38, died this week from wounds suffered on December 15 in Kabul, Afghanistan. After fighting for his life for a month and a half the soldier died at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. The Sgt was on his fifth deployment when his unit hit a roadside bomb. He was a native of Plainwell, Michigan.
The Sgt enlisted at the age of thirty-two. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. He was married and had six children. Having difficulty finding work and providing for his family he enlisted in the Army.
