Wasting no time in letting voters know his intentions, Massachusetts State Representative Carl Sciortino (D) has announced that he will seek a seat in Congress. The young lawmaker is openly gay and has been in the Massachusetts' legislature since 2004 when he was elected at age twenty-five.

Sciortino will seek Congressman Ed Markey's congressional seat if Markey is elected to replace Secretary of State John Kerry in the United States Senate. Markey at this stage is expected to win the seat in a special election.

In the legislature Sciortino worked hard for marriage equality, transgender rights and economic equality. He is considered a strong candidate for the seat.
