For photojournalists, receiving a World Press Award is like receiving an Oscar. Only a Pulitzer Prize ranks up there in prestige. The winners for 2012 were announced and Swedish photographer Paul Hansen was the 'Photograph of the Year' (see above photography) for his portrait of two Palestinian children killed in the Middle Eastern strife.
Awards were presented in nine categories to 54 photographers from 32 nations. Click here to see more winners, the descriptions of the photographs and photographer credits! All of the following photographs won first prize in different categories.
