United-We-Dance-for-Marriage-Equality-5

-Freedom to Marry and Third Way has released a memo showing that 97% of the state legislators who endorse marriage equality are re-elected! Even more exciting is that 85% of Republicans who supported marriage equality were re-elected. Hooray!

-A February CBS News Poll show that 54% of Americans support marriage equality. The gap between us and those oppose just keeps growing. Only 39% are now against it. Even close to a third of all Republicans are now aboard.

-The right wing National Organization for NOM has sunk to a new low....if that is possible. They are using the tragic suicide of Tyler Clementi to push their anti-LGBT agenda. On the Huffington Post:

“To exploit our late son’s name to advance an anti-equality agenda is offensive and wrong,” his parents said in a news release obtained by the Advocate. “By doing so, the National Organization for Marriage proves that not only is there no low they will not sink to, to advance their cruel agenda — but that neither they nor Ms. Morse have any grip on reality. The very idea that Tyler’s tragedy happened because of too much support — instead of not enough — is ludicrous. Shame on them.”

-Rumor has it that we are getting close in the State Assembly in Illinois and the vote could be anytime within the next month. The Governor proclaimed we are close but not quite there yet. It would be a huge victory if we win in Illinois.

-Chicago Magazine has a good run down of committed votes and uncommitted votes on marriage equality in the Illinois State Assembly.

-Ken Mehlman has done it again with the very powerful amicus brief of Republicans supporting marriage equality. Over 130 Republican decision makers came out supporting full equality for LGBT Americans.

- A new poll in Delaware reflects the national numbers. A majority of 54% support marriage equality while only 37% oppose it. An astounding 80% believes that allowing LGBT Americans to have the right to marry will have absolutely no negative impact on their lives.

-The latest Field Poll in California, the state that voted for Proposition 8, now has 61% of its citizens supporting marriage equality and a low 32% against us. Of course the strong hold is the San Francisco Bay area where 77% support marriage equality! Even among senior citizens we are leading by 6 points! The biggest change in support was among African-Americans with a shift of 23 points in just three years. Thank you Mr. President!

-In Rhode Island, its citizens are ready to see marriage equality pass the State Legislature. A high 60% of the voters in that state support marriage equality. Only a mere 26% now oppose it.

-Wisconsin voters are not treating us as well. In the Badger State, 44% support marriage equality while 46% oppose it. However that is a net gain of 9 points for the pro-marriage equality forces in just on year.

-The Upper Midwest is not a strong hold for marriage equality. The latest Star-Tribune Poll has Minnesota citizens against marriage equality by a  53% majority.  Only 38% want the law repealed to allow it.  Lots of work needs to be done.
