Likes.com has picked some examples of how embarrassing our Congress has become to the American people. Actually, if you look at all the examples it is how stupid this Congress has been. Have we ever had a more appalling Congress? (Point Numbers 3 and 10 are ones that I personally added).
1. Airport Funding:
While congress debated whether rural airports should receive $16.5 million in subsidies the airports had to shut down, putting 74 thousand people out of work and stopping airline services. BUT, since airline travel is heavily taxed, the US lost out on $350 million dollars due to uncollected airline tickets.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. On August 2nd the House of Representatives held a vote to repeal “Obamacare.” Repealing Obamacare was voted down…for the 40th time. That’s 40 sessions congress could’ve used to pass a budget. Instead, the budget was late and thousands of workers were furloughed.
3. Cut Everyone Else's Pay But Not There Own!
When Sequester went into effect every federal public employee saw their pay cut by 20%. Guess whose pay wasn't cut. Yep, Congress did not set an example and cut their own pay.
4. Failure To Report For Work:
Congress simply doesn’t pass laws. This congress has passed half the number of bills of the former least productive congress. They’re the voice of the people, and apparently we’ve gone mute
5. No One Likes Them!
This congress isn’t being invited to many birthday parties. They’ll say they didn’t want to go anyways and had other plans, but that’s not true. Fun Fact: Paris Hilton, BP during the oil spill, lawyers, banks, and the oil industry all have higher ratings than congress’ paltry 9%
6. They Hold Long Term Silly Grudges:
The Federal Reserve, which controls the monetary policy of the country, which is especially important during tough economic times (now), is also short a few members. Why? Because in order to be appointed to the Fed candidates must be approved by congress and Republicans keep blocking the candidates. All of them. Again, why? Because temperamental Republicans are mad that democrats weren’t nice to the candidates Bush suggested…three terms ago
7. Half The Congress Is Intolerant:
Half of congress wants to repeal Roe V Wade. The same half don’t think gays deserve equal rights. During the President’s annual State of the Union address, Rep. Joe Wilson yelled “You Lie!” Showing empathy, kindness, and tolerance are things I thought we all learned in 1st grade.
8. They Are Owned by National Rifle Association:
Remember when a gunman went to that school and shot a classroom full of 8 year olds? Afterwards, a poll showed 92% of Americans supported increased gun control legislation. Obama demanded it. Common sense required it. It wasn’t even put to a vote.
9. Lobbyists Are Writing The Legislation:
Whose interests are congress men and women really looking out for? Based on numbers taken from the Senate Office of Public records, in 2012 various interests spent 3.31 billion dollars lobbying congress. There are over 12,407 registered lobbyists whispering in the ears of your representatives. Are you and your congressman or women even Facebook friends?
10. Cut Poverty Program While 14% Of American Children Go Hungry.
Congress wants to cut poverty programs and give the rich tax cuts while 14% of our children go hungry each night. Quick, can you name one piece of legislation debated this year about feeding our hungry children???
