Everyone is the world seems to know about the Brooklyn renaissance. No matter if it is food, hip neighbors, great views, nightclubs, great venues or music, Brooklyn is one of the most sought after places on the globe today. Certainly it has caught up with Manhattan on a number of fronts including real estate prices!
What a lot of people don't know is that Oakland is becoming Brooklyn West. Ironically it is for the same reason that Brooklyn has become such a destination. Residents are being priced out of San Francisco.
The city is one of California's most diverse with large Italian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Korean and Bohemian communities. Entire neighborhoods are being renovated by an exodus of San Franciscans who can no longer afford the City by the Bay. Districts such as Fruitvale, Temescal, Korea Town and Jack London Square have been in the forefront of Oakland's renewal.
The city has an increasingly large LGBT community and is now one of the most liberal cities in California. Young couples are moving in and buying homes and renovating them at a record pace. Home prices have increased by 31% in just the past year.
