Before the fall of the Soviet Empire, Amsterdam was a must stop on any tour of Europe. The city which has more canals than Venice, ancient castles, remarkable art museums, fun night life and is the most cycle/pedestrian friendly urban area in Europe has been overshadowed by the new kids on the block. Berlin, Prague, Budapest and Barcelona have enticed visitors away from the extraordinary Dutch.

The Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands (Holland is just one state within the Kingdom) still offers stunningly beautiful moments and is Europe at its best. The City of Amsterdam has become lazy around its nightlife (especially in its gay bars) and it is like traveling into a time warp. However, everything else is just spectacular. The cuisine is some of the best in the EU, the architecture is among the best in the world and the people speak English fluently and couldn't be more friendly.

The city is one of the most LGBT friendly in all of the EU. The Gay Pride celebration on the canals in August is unforgettable. With their new King, it is now known as King's Day and it celebrated across the nation at the end of April. The nation becomes a sea of orange.

Here are some photographs just to remind you why to travel to this enchanted modern Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands. (Thanks to BoredDaddy.com for some of these photographs)!
