LIFE.com has published previously unseen photographs of the wedding of then Senator John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953. They were introduced to each other by mutual friend Charles L. Barlett at a dinner party in 1952.
The marriage took place in St Mary's Catholic Church in Newport, Rhode Island. Over 700 people attended the wedding mass conducted by Boston's Archbishop Richard Cushing and 1,200 were invited to the reception at Hammersmith Farm. Ms. Kennedy's dress was designed by Ann Lowe of New York.
