Los Angeles elected a new mayor yesterday and the winner was LGBT friendly Eric Garcetti. He defeated City Controller Wendy Greuel by 54% to 46%. The comfortable margin will strengthen his hand as mayor since the race was a tough and at times bitter one.
Garcetti becomes the first Jewish mayor in the history of the City of the Angels. His bio is impressive:
Eric was raised in the San Fernando Valley and earned his B.A. and M.A. from Columbia University. He studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and the London School of Economics and taught at Occidental College and U.S.C. A fourth generation Angeleno, Eric lives in Silver Lake with his wife and one-year-old daughter. He is a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy reserve and is an avid jazz pianist and photographer.
In other great news out of Los Angeles, openly gay LGBT candidate Ron Galperin defeated Dennis Zine by a landslide winning 56% to 44% of the vote. Galperin becomes the first LGBT person to win citywide in Los Angeles.
Mitch O'Farrell, also openly gay was elected to the Los Angeles City Council. He is a member of the Wyandotte Native American Tribe and has been in a relationship with George Brauckman for twenty-one years. He is a huge supporter of saving wildlife
