While there has been wildfires in California that has taken more homes, the famous Bel-Air/ Brentwood fire remains one of the better known because of the number of celebrities that lost their homes. Over 750 homes were burnt to the ground in this fire that took place November 9, 1961.
Winds raged up to 60mph as the fire jumped into Brentwood and Mandeville Canyon. Over 2,500 firefighters fought the blaze.
One of the most famous images from the fire is former Vice-President Richard Nixon in a suit and tie on the roof of his home attempting to save it.
