History on Film: The Night Hitler Bombed London (September 7, 1940)
For months, the Royal Air Force had been battling German planes in the Battle for Britain. The targets by the Nazi's were mostly military targets and the battle took place in the air. Civilians had not been targeted in the first year of battle.
That all changed on September 7, 1940.
Germany sent 300 bombers over England to begin the nightmare that became know as 'The Blitz'. By the end of the war, over40,000 British civilians had been killed and another 130,000 wounded by the relentless and immoral bombing of civilian populations. The East End of London was the hardest hit.
The BBC remembers that first night:
The first raids came towards the end of the afternoon, and were concentrated on the densely populated East End, along the river by London's docks.
About 300 bombers attacked the city for over an hour and a half. The entire docklands area seemed to be ablaze as hundreds of fires lit up the sky.
Once darkness fell, the fires could be seen more than 10 miles away, and it is believed that the light guided a second wave of German bombers which began coming over at about 2030 BST (1930 GMT).
The night bombing lasted over eight hours, shaking the city with the deafening noise of hundreds of bombs falling so close together there was hardly a pause between them.
One bomb exploded on a crowded air raid shelter in an East London district.
In what was described as "a million to one chance", the bomb fell directly on the 3ft (90cm) by 1ft (30cm) ventilation shaft - the only vulnerable place in a strongly-protected underground shelter which could accommodate over 1,000 people.
About 14 people are believed to have been killed and 40 injured, including children.

VIDEO: Major Celebrities Call For World Without Nuclear Weapons
Near a dozen celebrities have come together to demand that we create a world without nuclear weapons. They want 'zero' weapons and have done a powerful call for all of us to join them and return the world to sanity.
Global Zero has released the video and says in a release:
President Obama will meet with President Putin on the side of the June 17-18 G-8 Summit in Northern Ireland, with nuclear weapons on the agenda. In the lead-up to this critical decision point, an eminent group of artists – including Alec Baldwin, John Cusack, Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, Danny DeVito, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Whoopi Goldberg, Zoe Kravitz, Martin Sheen, Christoph Waltz and Naomi Watts – issued a stirring call for a world without nuclear weapons in a powerful new video released by Global Zero.
The video is part of an international campaign urging President Obama to set the world’s course to zero nuclear weapons by negotiating further cuts in the massive U.S.-Russian Cold War stockpiles and bringing other leading nuclear powers into international nuclear arms negotiations for the first time in history.
For me, "I demand zero"

Nature Going Totally Wild: Massive Wildfires In Colorado; Flood Threat In New York, Extremely Violent Storms For Middle Atlantic With 45% Tornado Threat!
Nature has gone totally wild over the last day and the next couple of days promises to be horribly violent.
Yesterday massive wildfires broke out in Colorado and some estimate that over a hundred homes could already been burned to the ground. The fires continue, with temperatures near 100 degrees, to devastate neighborhoods.
Today, extremely violent thunderstorms and a possible Derecho (land hurricane)with tornados most likely will hit the area from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio. The line of storms could see winds up to 100 mph and torrential rains. Washington, DC to Philadelphia will be the target on Thursday.
The last Derecho to hit the East in 2012 killed two dozen, left millions without power and cause extensive damage.
There is an amazing 45% chance of tornados for Eastern Shore of Maryland, Delaware, Southern New Jersey and Washington, DC. That is a highly unusual percentage for this area.
In New York City, some forecasts have three to five inches of rain falling within two days unto already saturated grounds. Even an inch in a downpour could cause serious flash flooding.
The situation with this system is serious and everyone tonight and tomorrow should pay very close attention to weather forecasts and breaking news!

VIDEO: Reed Timmer's Video About Tornado's And Highway Overpasses!"
Famed meteorologist and storm chaser Reed Timmer has been preaching about the dangers of seeking shelter from a tornado beneath a highway's overpass. The winds funnel into them and even become stronger. When he was a young man Reed made the same mistake and has been attempting to educate people since that incident.
Remember, many of the dead from the last round of tornados in Oklahoma were on the roads attempting to escape the El Reno F-5 tornado.
